Cleaning your whiteboard!

You have a dirty whiteboard, and you want your whiteboard to be clean again? We have some tips to help you get your whiteboard completely clean as if it was new.

How well your whiteboard gets clean depends on the material of your whiteboard, and the maintenance you do yourself to keep your whiteboard clean. The best surface material for a clean whiteboard is an enamel, ceramic whiteboard surface, or a whiteboard made of glass. These two types of whiteboards simply have the highest durability, are the easiest whiteboards to keep clean and have the longest life span. A painted steel whiteboard also gives good results for non-professional use, but simply has a shorter life span than an enamel or glass whiteboard.

If a whiteboard no longer cleans well, there could be several reasons for this: whiteboard cleaner

  • Your whiteboard surface is greasy

If the whiteboard surface is greasy the board marker ink will soak into the fat and remain visible on your whiteboard surface in a viscous manner. Also take into consideration that lots of times the whiteboard eraser or other materials can be greasy and continue to stain your whiteboard with a greasy coating.

Therefore: First throw away all materials you have that could make your whiteboard surface greasy. Simply buy new materials to start with new materials that do not contaminate your whiteboard again with grease.

Second: clean your whiteboard surface with a clean dry wipe and an alcohol containing fluid like cleaning spirit. The alcohol dissolves the grease from the whiteboard surface. After the whiteboard surface is clean again, make sure you will not use grease-contaminated whiteboard accessories again. The problems will then return.

Note: Never use caustic liquid such as paint remover. These liquids will damage the whiteboard beyond repair.

  • Your whiteboard accessories do not function properly

A whiteboard functions as good as the accessories that you are using on it. Make sure you use board markers with ink that is easy dry erasable, and use a whiteboard eraser or dry cloth that is clean. Also clean your whiteboard regularly with whiteboard cleaner or an alcohol containing fluid like cleaning spirit.

  • Your whiteboard is worn out and needs replacement

The writing surface of your whiteboard may simply wear out after use. How much and how fast a whiteboard wears out depends on the surface material (painted/enamel/glass), how much the whiteboard is used, and how much the whiteboard surface is exposed to UV sun rays and other environmental influences. If you cannot get your whiteboard functioning properly again after cleaning it with an alcohol containing fluid, and you are using high quality accessories, there is a high chance your whiteboard simply needs to be replaced by a new model.
